HSBC’s London headquarters, 8 Canada Square, has received Energy Efficiency Accreditation from the National Energy Foundation (NEF), supported by the Energy Institute and Carbon Trust.
The accreditation comes just months after the UK’s leading environmental standards authority, the Building Research Establishment (BRE), rated 8 Canada Square's building operation and management as ‘excellent’ in its annual environmental assessment.
As part of the accreditation process, an independent assessor appointed by the NEF reviewed HSBC’s investment in energy efficiency measures; management commitment to energy efficiency; and its progress in meeting its energy goals.
In July 2005, HSBC announced that it would reduce its global energy consumption by seven per cent by the end of 2007, while in September 2005, it became the world’s first carbon neutral major bank.
