HSBC voted top international retail bank

13 December 2004

HSBC has been voted International Retail Bank of the Year at this year's Retail Banker International awards. It also picked up the award for Retail Bank of the Year in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Chief Operating Officer of HSBC Bank Plc, Dyfrig John, attended the awards ceremony in London, organised by Lafferty, the business intelligence provider. He says the accolades are a tribute to HSBC's focus on customers.

"A commitment to understanding customer needs and delivering outstanding service is the foundation for successful retailing and crucial in the highly competitive world of financial services. This remains the cornerstone of HSBC's strategy. Put simply, we never forget that customers pay the bills," he added.

The annual Retail Banker International awards recognise financial bodies across the world for their achievements, commitment and market leadership, both within their individual regions and the retail banking industry as a whole.

Chairman of the Lafferty Group, Michael Lafferty, said: "We are extremely impressed with HSBC's achievements and what it continues to achieve."

The two Retail Banker International awards are the latest of several prestigious accolades won by HSBC this year. In the past few months, HSBC has been voted Global Bank of the Year by the Banker magazine for the third consecutive year, Best Consumer Bank by Global Finance, and World's Best Bank by Euromoney.
