HSBC launches major retirement campaign

18 March 2004

‘Live long & prosper’, an HSBC-sponsored TV series designed to celebrate active retirement and raise the Group's profile as a provider of retirement solutions worldwide, debuts on CNBC in March.

By 2050, the over-50s will outnumber young people for the first time in history - an age revolution that will bring massive lifestyle changes with it. It will affect the way we live, the way we work, attitudes to families, and the need to stay fit and healthy.

All these issues will be tackled in the ‘Live long & prosper’ series, which will air globally on CNBC, the leading international financial news and information channel available in over 100 million households in more than 60 countries.

Each of the six 30-minute programmes will feature interviews with individuals, their particular stories and insights from all around the world. The first programme, whose theme is ‘lifestyle’, explores the lives of older people who are still living life to the full, including a 72-year old Californian surfer, an 84-year old Italian ski instructor and a woman of 95 from the Japanese island of Okinawa who still works on a farm.

Each programme is expected to attract an audience of one million people.

Peter Stringham, Group General Manager and Head of Marketing for HSBC, said: "We want to establish HSBC as the brand which understands the needs and aspirations of a unique global generation heading towards retirement."

Online and international print advertising in international publications such as The Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal and Time magazine will support the TV campaign.
